Tony Womack and Freddy Bynum Injured
Tony Womack had to leave Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the third inning with lower back spasms. Ronny Cedeno singled to lead off the Cubs’ third and Womack, who was starting at second, followed with a single. Henry Blanco then hit a double-play grounder, and Womack pulled up while running to second base. He dropped to the ground, holding his back.
Freddy Bynum’s injury is a little more mysterious. He was lifted for pinch-hitter Matt Murton in the ninth because his right arm became swollen. In September 2004, Bynum had a blood clot removed from his right shoulder. The Cubs aren’t sure if that is related to the problem Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital to be examined.
