The Cubs seem unbeatable at home. Victories over the cross town White Sox finished off the 3 game sweep and marked the Cubs 14th straight home win. Saturday’s game was all about the 4th inning. The Cubs got 9 runs to turn a 4-1 defecit into a 10-4 lead. Jim Edmonds was the front end of a back to back homerun coupling with Mike Fontenot and then the back end of one with Aramis Ramirez later in the 4th. Jason Marquis didn’t pitch great, but the offense got him the win. Jose Contreras picked up the loss and Kerry Wood nailed down the save in the 11-7 victory.

Sunday night was all about Aramis Ramirez once again. He went 2-4 with a solo homerun and an RBI double. Eric Patterson also hit his first major league homerun, a 2 run blast in the 5th. Derrek Lee added a couple of RBI as Ryan Dempster went 8 strong for his 9th straight home victory in a 7-1 win. Next up for the Cubs, a 3 game set at Wrigley with the Baltimore Orioles, starting Tuesday night.

The Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays played their first game against each other ever and it was the Rays taking the 1-0 series lead with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night.  The Cubs offense struggled until the late innings when they attempted a comeback but they still came up short by one run.

Reed Johnson almost tied the game in the ninth inning when he bunted with Kosuke Fukudome on third base with two outs in the inning.  Johnson laid down a very good bunt however Evan Longoria was able to bare hand the ball and make a bouncing throw to first base where Willy Aybar was able to dig it and hold on for the third out.

Earlier in the ninth inning Mark DeRosa scored on a passed ball.  DeRosa singled with one out in the ninth inning and then moved to third base on a double by pitch hitter Fukudome.  Fukudome also had a chance to score on a passed ball but he choose to stay at third base as the ball bounced to the Rays catcher pretty quickly.

Neal Cotts took the loss for the Cubs and is now 0-1 on the season.  Cotts gave up a home run to Longoria and then a rbi single to Eric Hinske in the seventh inning.  Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster pitched the first five innings for the Cubs.  Dempster gave up six hits but only one run which came on a home run.

The Cubbies will try to get back on track on Wednesday as Big Z takes the mounds.  I like the Cubs chances at evening the series at 1-1.  What do you all think?

Ryan Dempster tossed a complete game for the Chicago Cubs on Wedneday night as they defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 7-2.  The complete game by Dempster was the first complete game by a Cubs pitcher this season.  The complete game was huge because it saved the bullpen from having to pitch in the game.

The Cubs got out to a good start at Kosuke Fukudome hit a three run home run in the first inning to put the Cubs up 3-0.  The Cubs then got two runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning.  In the second inning, Ryan Theriot had a two run double and in the third inning both runs came on a rbi single by Jim Edmonds.

One bad thing from the game however is that Alfonso Soriano was hit a by a pitch on his left hand and the pitch actually fractured part of his fourth finger.  Soriano will more then likely be out for two to three weeks as he as to be able to squeeze his fist and fit the hand into his glove before he can make a return.  It really sucks to see Soriano get hurt as he was just starting to get into another groove and hitting the ball pretty good.

I would expect Micah Hoffpauir is already on his way to Chicago or he will be early in the morning.

So how will the Cubs do as Soriano is headed to the disable list once again?  Leave us a comment and let us know your opinion.

It didn’t take the Chicago Cubs very long to get right back on track after their nine game win streak was snapped on Wednesday night.  They jumped right back into the saddle and came away with a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night.

Kosuke Fukudome got things started at the plate for the Cubs as he hit his fourth home run of the season in the second inning.  Hopefully Fukudome will start hitting the ball a little better on the road as he gets accustomed to the road travel in the country.  I should also mention that his wife and son have finally joined him which happened in San Diego.  It was their first time together since spring training.

Besides Fukudome going deep, Mark DeRosa also hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.  Ryan Theriot and Aramis Ramirez both chipped in with rbi’s of their own as well.  It would have been nice to see more runs scored in the game as they left 20 runners on base but sometimes that is just how it goes.

Things did get a little scary in the late innings however when Bob Howry gave up a solo home run to Jeff Kent which tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth inning.  Howry got lucky however as Fukudome singled in Theriot for the game winning run in the top of the ninth inning.  Kerry Wood then came in and was able to get his 17th save of the season.

Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster had some troubles once again as he pitched on the road.  Dempster only lasted 5 1/3 innings as he gave up five hits and three runs.  Kent also took Dempster deep for a solo home run in the game.

The Cubs will stay out in L.A. and play the Dodgers over the weekend.  Hopefully they can come away with atleast two out of three games if not take the remaining three games in the series.

Alfonso Soriano hit a two run home run and a rbi single as he led the Chicago Cubs past the visiting Colorado Rockies by the score of 5-4.  With the win, the Cubs have now won six straight games to stay on top of the Central Division standing.

Soriano has really heated up in he month of May as he is up to 12 home runs and 34 rbi in the lead off position.  He is making better contact right now even though he is still swining at almost every pitch it seems like.

Besides Soriano’s three rbi, Geovany Soto and starting pitcher Ryan Dempster both had one rbi in the game.

Speaking of Dempster, he lasted five innings and picked up the win to improve to 7-2 on the season.  Dempster should didn’t have great command of his pitches today as he gave up two home runs and walked four batters.

Michael Wuertz, Neal Cotts, Bob Howry, and Carlos Marmol all pitchd out of the bullpen.  Wuertz, Cotts, and Howry did well, but Marmol gave up a solo home run in the ninth inning even though he picked up his third save of the season.  Things could have been a lot worse for Marmol in the ninth inning except Kosuke Fukudome made a nice jumping catch near the wall on a flyball right beforeScott Podsednik took Marmol deep.

The Cubs will go for their seventh straight win and the four game sweep of the Rockies on Sunday afternoon.  Sean Gallagher will be facing off against Ubaldo Jimenez.

Ryan Dempster gave up a grand slam to Hunter Pence and the Houston Astros went on to beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Tuesday night.  That one pitch that barely got over the fence as the only mistake for Dempster on the mound as he pitched six innings.  Dempster is now 5-2 on the season.

One nice things to see after Dempster was taken out of the game was watching Jose Ascanio throw two scoreless innings.  He did have two walks, but showed off his lively arm and how well he can pitch out of the bullepn.  If you hadn’t heard, Ascanio was called up after Chad Fox was moved to the disabled list.

Aramis Ramirez was the only Cubs player to record a rbi in the game.  Ramirez hit a moon shot in the fourth inning for a two run home run.  Derrek Lee had three hits while Mark DeRosa had two hits.  It will be interesting to see if Lee sits tomorrow like Lou Piniella would like do even though Lee wants to play.  One player that I thnk could use another day off is Kosuke Fukudome as he went 0-4 on the night.

The Cubs will try to win the series when they play the Astros on Wednesday.  It will be Sean Gallagher going against Shawn Chacon.

The Chicago Cubs closed out their four game series against the San Diego Padres with wins on Wednesay and Thursday.  On Wednesday the Cubs beat the Padres 8-5 and then on Thursday the Cubs shut the Padres out 4-0.  The Cubs are now up 2 full games on the St. Louis Cardinals in the division.

On Wednesday it was Ted Lilly and Alfonso Soriano leading the way.  Lilly picked up his fourth win of the season and struckout eleven batters over six inning while Soriano hit a lead off home run and collected three rbi in the game.  Lilly and Soriano are heating up and that is a great sign for Cubs fans!

On to Thursday where the Cubs fans seen Jim Edmonds take the field for the first time as a Chicago Cubs.  Edmonds went 1-4 in his Cubs debut.  You could hear some boos as well as cheers for him during his first at bat.

Ryan Dempster stole the show from everybody however as he came within two out of being the first Cubs player to pitch a complete game this season.  Dempster threw 8 1/3 innings while only allowing five hits and zero runs.  Dempster struck out 12 batters as he was locating the ball well all day long.  Kerry Wood came in to get the save which was his eighth of the season.

Derrek Lee had two rbi while Ryan Theriot and Dempster both had one rbi in the game.  All four of the Cubs runs came in the fifth inning when they knocked Greg Maddux out of the game.

Now the Cubs will welcome in the Pittsburgh Pirates for a weekend series.  The Cubs are 6-0 against the Pirates this year so I would expect them to have a pretty good weekend.

Despite being dominated for most of the game by Arizona rookie starter Max Scherzer, the Cubs rallied off the Diamondback’s bullpen for 6 in the 7th en route to a 7-2 victory and their first series win in weeks. Alfonso Soriano went 4 for 5 with 2 runs and the game winning RBI. The Cubs got the lead in the 3rd when Soriano scored on an error by rightfielder Justin Upton. After the Cubs failed to score with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 5th, the D’Backs got 2 runs in the top of the 6th on a bases loaded walk and an RBI groundout against Ryan Dempster.

Daryle Ward tied the game with a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the 7th, followed by an Alfonso Soriano RBI double to put the Cubs ahead. The Cubs would get four more in the inning on RBI singles from Ryan Theriot and Aramis Ramirez, capped off with a 2 run homer by Kosuke Fukudome. Scott Eyre, who made his first appearance since coming off the DL, got the win in relief. Carlos Zambrano tries to lead the Cubs to a sweep on Mother’s Day against Randy Johnson at 1:20 CT.

That was about one of the most frustrating games I have watched in a long time.   The Cubs lost to the Reds 5-3 as the Reds broke their five game losing streak and the Cubs continue to play bad baseball.  Two errors really hurt the Cubs as the Reds scored four unearned runs in the game.  Mark DeRosa and Mike Fontenot both extended innings where the Reds scored after they commited big errors.

The Cubs had their chance to atleast tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, but with the bases loaded for some reason Fontenot tried scoring from third base on a ball that got away from Paul Bako and was called out at home.  Yeah, replays showed that Fontenot was safe, but he shouldn’t have even tried scoring on that play because his run really didn’t matter.  Ryan Theriot walked right after that to load the bases for Derrek Lee but he failed to get a base hit as he grounded out to first to end the game.

Geovany Soto, Derosa, and Theriot all had a RBI each.  Soto connected on a solo home run in the second inning as he continues to swing a good bat.  Soto finished the game 3-3 with a walk.

Ryan Dempster took the loss for the Cubs.  Dempster is now 4-1 on the season after losing the game tonight.  Dempster allowed five runs to score but only one of those runs were earned.  The two errors extended innings and Dempster wasn’t able to pick up his teammates.

Carlos Zambrano will take the mound tomorrow night for the Cubs as they will try to get back on track against the Reds.  The Reds will send Aaron Harang to the mount so the Cubs will have their work cut out for them once again.

It was a good night to be a Cubs fan Wednesday as the Cubs jumped all over Milwaukee to go on to a 19-5 victory. Brewers starter Jeff Suppan gave up 6 runs in the first and 8 overall in his abbreviated outing. Geovany Soto was the star for the Cubs offense with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee had back to back RBI doubles in the 1st, while Mark DeRosa also added a pair of RBI singles. Every Cub starter reached base, and they all got a hit with the exception of Felix Pie. Daryle Ward had an RBI double in the 8th after Ronny Cedeno cleared the bases with a double of his own.

Ryan Dempster went 6 innings giving up 3 runs, to earn his 4th win of the year. The Cubs and Brewers play the rubber game of the series Thursday afternoon at 1:20 as Carlos Zambrano seeks his first win against Yovani Gallardo.
