The Chicago Cubs were on the wrong side of a slugfest at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night as they lost to the rivals from the north 10-7.  The loss was the fourth in the five games for the Cubs who have hit a slump after coming out of the gates strong.

The Cubs could never get going as the Brewers scored in six of nine innings against the Cubs pitching staff.  Jason Marquis got the start on the mound and lasted five innings as he gave up ten hits and five runs.  Kevin Hart gave up three runs, Sean Marshall and Jon Leiber also gave up a earned run out of the bullpen.

The Cubs batters faced a wild Ben Sheets who walked seven batters but the Cubs couldn’t string together three or four hits in a row to take advantage of all those walks and put up a big number on the scoreboard.

Mike Fontenot did double with the bases loaded to pick up three RBI but that was about the Cubs only big hit that scored more then one run at a time.  Derrek Lee did connect for his eighth home run in the in the third inning and finished with that one RBI.  Reed Johnson, Felix Pie, and Marquis all had one RBI as well.

It is time the Cubs get back to winning some games, and they really need to pick up the win tomorrow when they face the Brewers once again.  You can’t keep dropping these divisional games and expect to win the division.

So will the Cubs get the win tomorrow?  Leave us a comment and let us know!

The Chicago Cubs continued to swing the bats very good and Ted Lilly picked up his first win of the season as the Cubs beat the New York Mets 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon.  The Cubs finished their eight game homestand by winning seven of the right games and moving into first place in the central divsion.

Ronny Cedeno led the Cubs at the plate as he went 2-5 with a grand slam in the eigth inning and a RBI double in the second inning that scored Kosuke Fukudome.  Fukudome also had a good day at the plate as he went 3-3 and reached base all five times he batted.

Reed Johnson and Mark DeRosa both had one RBI for the Cubs as well, who got productivity from pretty much everyone in their lineup.  The Cubs were very patient at the plate again as they drew eight walks and only struckout three times.  Great job today at the plate!

Lilly finally picked up his first win of the season as he pitched six innings of four hit baseball.  He only gave up one earned run while walking four batters and striking out four.  He didn’t have his best stuff, and still isn’t throwing the ball as hard as he was last year, but hopefully this will get the lefty on track and het can start producing some wins for the team.

Bob Howry, Carlos Marmol, and Kevin Hart all threw one inning each and did a very good job.  The Mets were only able to get one hit and that came off of Hart in the ninth inning.

The Cubs will now travel to Denver for a short two game series against the Rockies.  Jason Marquis and Rich Hill will be taking the mound for the Cubs.  Hopefully they will be able to keep the ball down, and hold the Rockies offense down.

What do you think of how well the Cubs are playing right now?  How long will they be able to keep this up?

It was an ugly game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, but the Cubs eventually ended up winning 10-8 in a 12 inning game.  The Cubs had led the game 7-0, before they started to walk batters, and play terrible defense.  Three errors in the game for the Cubs, they really need to get some work done out in the field.

The Cubs broke open the game when Ronny Cedeno hit a bases loaded triple in the third inning that scored three runs and put the Cubs up 7-0.  After that though, the Pirates responded with five runs in the 4th inning to make the score 7-5.  Aramis Ramirez grounded into fielder’s choice to second base that scored Reed Johnson in the the 6th inning that extended the Cubs lead to 8-6, but then Pirates came right back by scoring a single run in the 6th and 7th innings to tie the game.  No other scoring happend until Ramirez his a sac fly that scored Ryan Theriot in the 12th inning, and the Cubs added another run with a bases loaded walk.

Job Leiber picked up the win as he pitched in relief.  Carlos Marmol picked up the save as Kerry Wood was given the day off.

I hope the Cubs can get some good rest, and take some groundbals during the off day tomorrow.  I think they need to get a little bit of work done in the field and cut down on the errors.  The two teams will play again on Wednesday night as the Cubs play their first night game of the season.

The Chicago Cubs have signed outfielder Reed Johnson to a one year contract after he was released by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Johnson can play all three positions, bats right handed, and will more then likely platoon with Felix Pie in centerfield.

Johnson is a career .281 hitter, and has a lifetime .308 average against left-handed pitching.  Overall I think it is a good pickup for the Cubs, better then trading for Marlyon Byrd or Jay Payton etc.
