Zambrano and the Cubs start off the season with a victory!

Carlos Zambrano tosses six innings of one run ball as the Cubs beat the Houston Astros 4-2 and pick up their first win of the season. Alfonso Soriano and Aramis Ramirez both hit solo home runs to spark the offense while Kevin Gregg picked up his first save with the team.

David Patton and Angel Guzman get the final two spots

Jim Hendry decided on the final two roster spots on the 25-man roster Sunday afternoon as he chose Angel Guzman and David Patton for the final two spots. Chad Gaudin was released with the Cubs eating $1.6 million and Jeff Samardzija was sent to Triple-A Iowa.

Cubs release three top draft picks

The Chicago Cubs have cut ties with three of their high draft picks in recent years. Mark Pawelek, Ryan Harvey and Grant Johnson have all been released. Not one of them ever got promoted above Double-A Tennessee. The team also cut Paul Bako and Mike Stanton as they trim the roster down.
