Kevin Gregg named the closer over Carlos Marmol

Manager Lou Piniella announced on Sunday that Kevin Gregg would open the season as the teams closer. Gregg beat out last years setup man Carlos Marmol for the closers role. Do you think Gregg is the man for the job? Can he handle the pressure of being the closer in Chicago?

Is it opening day yet?

I sit here thinking, “Is it Opening Day Yet?” Wow do I wish it was. I just can’t get into Spring Training this season for some odd reason. Maybe it’s the fact that the only position battle that appears to be going on is in the bullpen? I’m not sure but I do have a little update for you all today.

Yes! Pitchers and Catchers Report To Spring Training!

Chicago Cubs fans, the greatest five words have been yelled out down in Mesa, AZ this morning. “Pitchers and Catchers Report Today” Those five words are a baseball fans favorite phrase. Some players showed up a day early but all will need to be in Friday and then will take part in their first full workout on Saturday. Who will be the 5th starter and closer?

The offseason hasn’t quite reached it’s conclusion just yet, but outside of Jake Peavy rumors, and maybe a final piece to add to the bench, it would seem that the Cubs are done tweaking for 2009, so let’s take a look around the horn for the upcoming season.
