Well the Cubs beat the Pirates on Friday and Saturday however mother nature had something to say as they attempted to go for the sweep on Sunday. The game was postponed until a later date and now the Cubs look forward to a huge series against the San Diego Padres. Can the Cubs catch the Cardinals or grab the wild card?
Tom Gorzelanny made his Cubs debut and he was marvelous as he allowed just three hits and one run in 7 and 1/3 innings. The Cubs offense helped him out with solo home runs from Kosuke Fukudome and Derek Lee. Koyie Hill had a great at bat in the sixth to drive in two runs as well. But what’s going on with the bullpen?!
The Chicago Cubs dropped two out of three games down in Miami to the Marlins as the bullpen blew leads and the offense didn’t score very many runs. Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg both pitched terribly. If Gregg continues to throw meatballs, it’s time to try Angel Guzman in the closers role.
The Cubs scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back as the defeated the Astros 12-0 on Wednesday. Alfonso Soriano hit a three run blast while Aramis Ramirez and Andres Blanco both hit solo shots. Randy Wells pitched eight shutout innings to pick up his seventh win of the season.
