Cubs News and Notes May 18th

Well the Cubs are doing the same old thing, winning a few games in a row and then going on a three or four game losing streak. Right now they have won a couple games over the Rockies but have a couple of tough games against the Phillies in Philadelphia so anything could happen there.

Cubs offense heats up and goes 7-3 in last ten games

Wow, after my last blog post of the Cubs offense sucking and the bullpen not doing a good job things have turned around for the club. After coming back and taking the final three games of a four game set against the Diamondbacks, the Cubs find themselves 7-3 in their last ten to match the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cubs were four outs away from a winning home stand to start the 2010 season at Wrigley Field but the Houston Astros and Geoff Blum had other ideas. Blum singled off Cubs closer Carlos Marmol in the eighth inning and the Astros scored the game winning run in the 10th inning on a sac fly to beat the Cubs 3-2. The one run loss was the second in as many games for the Cubs and it also spoiled a marvelous outing by Ryan Dempster who pitched into the eighth inning.

Will Lou get the offense going and make some changes for the upcoming road trip? When will Aramis Ramirez start swinging the bat?

Cubs unable to complete the sweep over the Brew Crew

The Cubs were hoping to sweep the Brewers on Thursday afternoon but bad pitching made sure that did not happen. Four pitchers gave up eight runs (six earned) on 14 hits. Five walks and two errors by the defense did not help out but the team be fielding the ball much better than they did.

Bad pitching by Carlos Zambrano, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija and John Grabrow did the team in as they allowed eight runs to score in the 8-6 loss.
