Sean Marshall for Mark Teahen?

Submitted by Cliff on Monday, 24 November 2008 3 Comments

Good Monday everyone! Well things are getting off to a bang this Friday morning as Cubs.com has reported that the Kansas City Royals are looking at Sean Marshall and Mike Fontenot from the Cubs. If a deal is made for either player, the Cubs would receiving Mark Teahen from the Royals.

I sure hope that Jim Hendry is not trading both Marshall and Fontenot for Teahen as that would be a very bad trade in my opinion. I think giving up Marshall for Teahen would be too much to be honest. If the Cubs were to trade for Teahen at this point, I think they would stop looking at the possibility of getting Raul Ibanez or Milton Bradley.

Hmm what are you thoughts on this Cubs rumor?

No.trade Fukadome and that clown in left field. Bring in someone like Manny Ramerez. let Johnson play center and maybe Haufpauer in right.

Well thats a bit of reach. In all reality Teahen would be okay. The strength in Teahen is that he can play first, third, right and left (in some ways a left handed DeRosa). While I wouldn’t be thrilled with the acquisition he could be better this year as 2007 was a down year. You are correct however that giving up marshall and fontenot is too much for a .255 / 15 hr. player in 2007.

Raul Ibanez is really old at this point, and worse case scenario is he comes from Seattle with high expectations and he gets injured. Nothing changes. He seems like too much of a temporary fix. Milton Bradley played 126 games this for the Rangers, which was his hightest total since 2004. In fact has played over 100 games only three times in his career. I am sure everyone is resigned to the fact that he is now an AL only player, and will be a DH so that he can limit injuries.

The other option is that they do acquire Brian Roberts, put him in leadoff, and see if they can move Soriano to the two hole? While everyone has lost total confidence in Fukudome, keep in mind that Hideki Matsui hit .287 his “rookie” year, with only 16 hr’s, and hitting .269 in the second half.

I think you can assume more production from Fukudome next year. Though it is still important to get good players in the offseason, the key for Hendry is not to give up something like Ceda for Gregg. DOH!

The Cubs aren’t going to move Fukudome and they won’t be getting Brian Roberts this off season. I’m pretty sure of that.

One name to keep in mind is Bobby Abreu even tough is defense is bad. He could provide that left handed bat and play right field.
