Prior and Cubs settle arbitration case

Submitted by Cliff on Tuesday, 31 January 2006 No Comment

Sorry for posting this late as I have been out of town but I figured I should atleast post it incase some of you Cubs fans missed it. Mark Prior and the Chicago Cubs have agreed on a $3.65 million dollar contract for 2006. Prior had become arbitration eligible when he voided the final year of his original contract signed in 2001. Under the terms of the original deal, he was to make $2.75 million this year. Prior had asked for $4 million, while the Cubs countered with an offer of $3.3 million. The right-hander was 11-7 with a 3.67 ERA in 27 games in 2005.

Good deal to get it done and hopefully Hendry can get the other players signed to contract soon. Hendry and MacPhail have never went to arbitration with a player and lets hope it doesn’t happen now. The Cubs’ other arbitration-eligible players include infielder Jerry Hairston, outfielder Juan Pierre, and pitchers Will Ohman and Carlos Zambrano.
