It wasn’t the outcome that the Cubs players were all hoping for as the American League beat the National League All Stars 4-3 in 15 innings. Both teams had their chances to score in the late innings but it wasn’t until the 15th inning that the A.L. pushed across the winning run.
The Cubs players didn’t do badly in the game. Geovany Soto and Kosuke Fukudome both went 0-2 including a strikeout each. Soto also allowed two runners to steal bases but he really didn’t have a good shot at either runner as they had huge leads. Aramis Ramirez went 0-0 with a walk in the ninth inning. He was then replaced by Cristian Guzman who pitch ran. The Cubs pitchers did great as Carlos Zambrano threw two scoreless innings while Ryan Dempster and Carlos Marmol both pitched a scoreless inning each.
It was very funny watching Big Z throw a 96 MPH fastball to Manny Ramirez and then come back with his slow curve ball that went over the head of Manny. Both players laughed it off and then Z was able to get him to ground out to second. Dempster and Marmol struckout a combined five batters in their two innings of action.
Now if the Cubs do happen to make it far in the post season, they will not have home field advantage for the series. That is the part that really sucks about losing the all star game. What are your opinion on that?
First off I’d like to say sorry for not having and update after yesterday’s game. I had to head out shortly after the exciting game and didn’t get back until the late hours. I was able to watch most of today’s game as the Cubs lost the series finale to the Giants by the score of 4-2.  Basically the Cubs ran into Tim Lincecum who through eight strong innings to shut down the Cubs. Ryan Dempster lost his first game of the season at Wrigley Field.
The offense could not come up with the big hit that they needed to get to get a good rally going. They did push across a run in the 9th inning on a Geovany Soto rbi single but Daryle Ward struck out and Ryan Theriot grounded out with a runner on third.
At the end of the first half the Cubs are 19 games over .500 with a 57-38 record. The team is also 4.5 games up on the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the division. Every Cubs fan has to be happy with how the first half of the season has turned out.
Now lets set back and watch the All Star Game where 8 Cubs players have been selected. Carlos Marmol was added to the roster this morning when Kerry Wood informed the league that he would not be available to pitch in the game due to a blister.
Wow, what another exciting win for the Cubbies as they beat the San Francisco Giants 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Wrigley. The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning and then Aramis Ramirez unloaded a bomb that curved around the left field foul pole for a three run home run. Once again it was A-Ram being the player of the game for the Cubs.
The hitters knew they had to score some runs because the pitching staff threw the ball so well. Jason Marquis tossed the first seven innings of the game as he battled against Matt Cain. Marquis only gave up three hits as the threw the ball the best he has all season long. Bob Howry tossed a scoreless inning in the eighth and then closer Kerry Wood was called on. Wood did have some trouble after Mark DeRosa couldn’t come up with a tough catch in left field as he allowed one run and gave the Giants the chance to score the tying runs as they had the tying runs on base. Wood was able to get the job done however and pick up his 24th save of the season.
Now lets sit back and hope the Brewers and Cardinals both lose. Enjoy you Friday night and see you all back here on Saturday afternoon!
It just wasn’t a good day to be a Chicago Cubs pitcher on Thursday as all five Cubs pitchers gave up atleast home run. The Cubs gave up a total of seven home runs and twelve runs while they lost 12-7. The Cubs still took two out of three from the Reds, but it would have been nice to get the sweep.
Ted Lilly, Michael Wuertz, Jon Lieber, Chad Gaudin, and Neal Cotts all gave up home runs. Lilly and Lieber both gave up two while Wuertz, Gaudin, and Cotts all gave up one each. Bad day to be a Cubs pitcher when the wind was blowing straight out. Gaudin and Rich Harden have to be thinking so this is what it is like to pitch at Wrigley Field during the summer.
The Cubs didn’t have a bad day at the plate as they scored seven runs, they just couldn’t keep up with the Reds. Mike Fontenot hit a two run home run for the only long ball for the Cubs. Ryan Theriot added a two run single while Derrek Lee had a rbi double.
The Cubs will now wait for the San Francisco Giants to fly into town as they will play a three game series this weekend. Make sure you get out there this weekend and catch a game. Rich Harden will making his Cubs debut on Saturday!
