Marlins sweep away the Cubs

Submitted by on Thursday, 25 May 2006 No Comment

The Cubs hole just keeps getting bigger and bigger as every series passes by.  This time it was the young Florida Marlins that swept away the Cubs.  The Cubs had leads in all three games of the series but could not hold them, allowing the Marlins to have one big inning each game.  Cubs starting pitching was decent but nothing great and the bullpen blew a save opportunity when Dempster gave up a game winning hit on Tuesday.

Where do the Cubs go from here? Dusty says their goal is to get back to .500 at the all star break and then hopefully make a run.  He is counting on Derrek Lee, Mark Prior, Angel Pagan, and Kerry Wood to be 100% healthy and really give the team a boost?   I don’t see this happening, the confidence is not there for this team to pull back and actually content for the divison let alone the wildcard.
