2006 Highlights:
He set career highs in almost every category including 136 games
and 520 at-bats. He also set career highs with 78 runs scored,
40 doubles, 13 home runs and 74 RBI. He batted .200 (20-100) in
September and .165 over his last 17 games with one multi-hit game.
DeRosa spent the last two days under .300 for the first time since
April 30. He hit his career-high 40th double 9/19 vs. SEA and
was the fourth Ranger to record 40 doubles in 2006. His 74 RBI
were more than the 73 he totaled in his last 3 seasons (2003-05)
with Atlanta and Texas. He was named Rangers' Player of the Month
for August after finishing the month with a batting average of
.327 with 5 home runs and a team best 25 RBI. He was named AL
Player of the Week for week ending Aug. 13, batting .433 (13-30)
with 2 doubles, 4 home runs and 15 RBI. He started at six different
positions (1B, 2B, SS, 3B, RF, LF) as well as DH and was the first
player in majors to do that this season. He started 20-or-more
games at three different positions (2B, 3B, RF), becoming first
player in club history to match that feat.
2005 Highlights:
Batted .243 with 8 home runs and 20 RBI in first American League
campaign...appeared in 64 games, making 41 starts...started 21
games in right field, 8 at second base, 7 at shortstop, 4 at third
base and one as designated hitter.
Batting: Was 1-16 (.063) in first 12 games...lone hit during stretch
was an opposite field HR on April 15 vs. Oakland in his 3rd at-bat
with the Rangers...batted .260 (13-50) over next 21 games to raise
season average to .212...was 1-10 in 5 games from August 10- 17...hit
.405 (17-42) with 4 HR and 8 RBI in 17 games from August 18-September
17 to rise from .197 to .271...went 4-30 (.133) in final 11 games,
including an 0-17 slump to finish the season at .243...hit career-high
8 HR in just 148 at-bats, surpassing previous high of 6 HR set
in 2003...recorded season-high 3 hits on 3 occasions...matched
career-high with 3 RBI on August 27 at Baltimore...hit game-tying
pinch-hit HR off Mariners closer Eddie Guardado on September 17
vs. Seattle...batted .322 (19-59) with 5 HR and 12 RBI against
left-handers and .191 (17-89) against righties...hit .328 (20-61)
with 7 HR and 13 RBI in 33 games at home and .184 (16-87) in 33
road contests...hit .321 (17-53) in the 7th inning or later.
Other Notes: Made Texas debut on April 15 vs. Toronto after not
playing in first 10 games...was last player on the club's opening
day roster to appear in a game in 2005...former Penn standout
started 7 games alongside former Princeton hurler Chris Young...they
were just the 2nd Ivy League tandem in the last 50 years to start
for the same team...Ron Darling (Yale) and Bill Almon (Brown)
started alongside each other in 2 games for the 1987 New York
Mets.
