Latest on Peavy to the Cubs Rumors

The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres are still talking about a trade that would send Jake Peavy to the Cubs. It seems that both Jim Hendry and Kevin Towers are holding to their cards and trying to see which one folds first. I have a feeling that Hendry knows that Towers needs to trade Peavy and he is holding strong on what he is willing to give up.

Mark DeRosa’s name has been a hot name the last couple of days in Las Vegas as well. Right now it appears for a three way trade to work, DeRosa would be being sent to another team, with that team sending patch players that the Padres would be interested in. If DeRosa is traded, expect the Cubs to keep Sean Marshall and not send him to the Padres.

In other news this morning, Donald Veal, the second round draft pick in the 2005 draft was picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Rule 5 draft. The Pirates must keep Veal on the 25 man roster the entire year or offer him back to the Cubs. It’s a good situation for Veal as he didn’t look like he would get much of an opportunity with the Cubs this next season.
