Kosuke Fukudome to move to center field?

Submitted by Cliff on Tuesday, 28 October 2008 No Comment

Now things are getting interesting in the off season for the Chicago Cubs. Lou Piniella told a New York Daily News reporter that the Cubs plan on moving Kosukue Fukudome to center field and platoon with Reed Johnson in the 2009 season.

This means the Cubs are going to push hard for a left handed right fielder. Some of the names that keep popping up in rumors are Adam Dunn. Bobby Abreu, Jeremy Hermida and Matt Holliday even though he is a right hander. We can’t forget about Milton Bradley as well as the Cubs have been following him for the past couple of years.

The Fukudome move to center field more less spells the end of the Felix Pie project. If the Cubs infact do move Fukudome to center, look for the Cubs to try to move Pie in a trade during the off season. Pie is out of options and will either open up the season on the Cubs big league roster and more then likely sit the bench or be with another team.

If the Cubs are unable to land that big free agent or trade for a player like Holliday, look for Mark DeRosa to move to right field full time and Ronny Cedeno or Mike Fontenot to start at second base. Or would the Cubs get serious about a Brian Roberts trade and let him play second?

Also, we can pretty much say bye bye to Jim Edmonds who doesn’t look to be coming back.
