Kerry Wood out and Carlos Marmol to closer?
Well the first big deal involving free agents and the Cubs is starting to heat up. There are some reports going around Chicago today that Kerry Wood is seeking a three year contract from the Cubs. Cubs management is hesitant to give him a three year deal considering how often he has been injured.
Personally I want Wood to stay with the Cubs but if he is stuck on getting a three year deal, I’m not so sure about it. Sure it could work out but you never know with his arm troubles. It’s too bad he wouldn’t take a guranteed one year deal with a club option for a second.
If Wood does elect to sign with another team, the Cubs would be getting a compensation draft pick but would also be left with a big hole in their bullpen. And the bullpen wasn’t exactly lights out toward the end of last season. Would management then go after players like Brian Fuentes or Juan Cruz? If they sign either of those players and move Carlos Marmol to closer does it make the team any better?
What does everyone think will happen with Wood and the Cubs? Will he resign with the team or look else where?
