John, a left-handed hitting infielder/outfielder, signed with the Cubs as a free agent in December 2005. © prior to the Cubs, Mabry saw big league action with St. Louis (1994-1998, 2001, 2004-2005), Seattle (1999- 2000, 2003), San Diego (2000), Florida (2001), Philadelphia (2002) and Oakland (2002) ... has seen major league time at five defensive positions - first base, third base and all three outfield positions ... has pitched in two big league games ... has hit 3 homers and recorded 30 RBI as a pinch-hitter ... has seen action in 26 postseason games - including two World Series appearances in 2004 ... was named the Cardinals Rookie of the Year in 1995 by the St. Louis chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America ... was selected by St. Louis in the sixth round of the 1991 June draft out of West Chester (PA) University ... is a 1988 graduate of Bohemia Manor (MD) High School.

2005 Highlights:
Hit .240 with 15 doubles, 8 homers and 32 RBI in his final season with the Cardinals ... had 13 multi-hit games - including a season-high 4-hit affair on July 4 in Arizona ... also drove in a pair of runs in the contest ... made 54 starts for the Redbirds, seeing action in 49 games in right field (25 starts), 23 games in left field (12 starts), 18 games at third base (12 starts) and 14 games at first base (five starts) ... led the Cardinals with 34 pinch at-bats, hitting a career-best .265 in that role ... hit his third career pinch-homer August 30 off Florida's Todd Jones ... led off the 11th inning on July 22 with a triple, leading to the Cardinals' winning run in the 2-1 contest ... drove in a season-high 5 runs on May 20 in Kansas City, going 3-for-5 and hitting his first career grand slam in a 7-6 Cardinal victory ... the bases-loaded roundtripper came in the first inning off Zack Greinke ... had a 4-RBI game under a month later, driving in 4 runs in an 8-5 defeat of Tampa Bay on June 19.
