| Jerome was acquired from San Francisco
in May 2005 as part of a three-player trade...the Honolulu, Hawaii,
native is just the 27th Major Leaguer born in our nation's 50th
state...made his big league debut April 26, 2003, at Philadelphia
at 21 years and 140 days old, becoming the youngest Giants pitcher
to debut since Mark Grant (1984)...was just the fourth rookie
in franchise history - and first since 1937 - to start a postseason
contest when he did so in the 2003 National League Division Series...was
selected to participate in the 2001 All-Star Futures Game in Seattle,
Washington...was San Francisco's sandwich selection (39th pick
overall) in the 1999 First-Year Player Draft...graduated from
Waipahu (HI) High School in 1999.
2005 Highlights:
Jerome was a combined 6-10 with a 4.26 ERA in 22 games (20 starts)
for San Francisco and the Cubs...opened the campaign in the Giants'
starting rotation, struggling in his first three starts...made
the first relief appearance of his big league career April 16
at Colorado...was optioned to Fresno (AAA) April 25 - and went
1-4 in six starts...was traded to the Cubs May 28 and reported
to Iowa (AAA), where he made his first start for the organization
May 31...earned his first win for the I-Cubs on June 5 at Memphis,
pitching 6.0 innings and giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks...was
recalled from Iowa (AAA) on June 21 and made his first start for
the Cubs that night, earning the win in a 4-2 defeat of Milwaukee...pitched
7.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits...worked out of the bullpen
for the second time in his career June 26 at U.S. Cellular Field,
combining with Mark Prior and Ryan Dempster on a 1-hit shutout
of the White Sox...earned his first career win at Wrigley Field
on August 23, working into the eighth inning in a 10-1 defeat
of Atlanta...allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks over 7.2 innings...also
doubled and singled in the game for his first career multi-hit
contest...posted a 2.40 ERA (11 ER/41.1 IP) over his final six
starts, but went just 2-3 over the span...gave up more than 3
runs just once during that stretch - and held batters to a .252
average...worked 7.0 innings in all but one of the starts. |
