| Geovany was added to the Cubs 40-man
roster in November 2004...the catcher has spent his entire 4-year
professional career in the Cubs minor league system...is a native
of San Juan, Puerto Rico and attended the American Military Academy...is
a career .261 batter with 54 doubled and 130 RBI...collected all
star honors in 2003 as a Florida State League all-star and in
2004 as a Southern League mid-season all-star...is a cousin of
former Cubs infielder Ramon Martinez.
2006 Highlights:
Soto batted .272 (93-for-342) with 21 doubles, six home runs and
38 RBIs in 108 games for Triple-A Iowa before he was promoted
to the big-league team. He recorded his first Major League hit
with a second-inning infield single Sept. 3 against San Francisco.
He went 1-for-3 in his first career start and second Major League
game.
2005 Highlights:
Geovany was called up on September 6 and made his major league
debut on September 23 against Houston as a pinch hitter...spent
the majority of the season at Iowa (AAA), where he batted .253
in 91 games with 14 doubles, 4 home runs and 39 RBI. © had
20 multi-hit games...hit his first Triple-A home run on May 26
vs. Sacramento - a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning...was
a triple shy of batting for the cycle August 26 at New Orleans...went
3-for-4 with a single, double, home run and 3 RBI. |
