Geovany Soto wins 2008 National League Rookie of the Year
As expected, Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto won the 2008 National League Rookie of the Year. The award was announced on Monday afternoon but pretty much everyone in baseball knew that Soto would be the winner. Soto received 31 of 32 votes. Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds was the only other player to receive a vote.
Soto batted .285 with 23 home runs and 83 rbi in his first full season at the Major League level. Soto was the first rookie catcher to win the award since Mike Piazza did it with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the first Cub to win the award since Kerry Wood did it in 1998.
Congratulations Geo!

Way to go Geo!!!! You rock and we’re proud to be called CUB FANS!
Yeah good effort buddy…you definitely deserve it…We will all be watching Soto’s career with great interest. Keep your head up and don’t get too much of a big head…you still have much to learn…
