Dempster and bullpen not good in 11-6 loss

Ryan Dempster made his return to the mound for the Cubs on Tuesday night and things did not turn out well for the right hander. Dempster thought he was ready to go after spending the last three in a half weeks on the disabled list with a broken big toe, however he did not have velocity and command that he needed to perform the way we are used to seeing him throw.

Dempster allowed six runs (five earned), on nine hits in five innings. He struck out three and did not allow a walk.

The bullpen wasn’t much better than Dempster as they allowed five more runs to cross the plate. Angel Guzman, Aaron Heilman and Jeff Samardzija were all charged with one run while Jeff Stevens was charged with allowing two runners to score. Just a bad outing by the pen who hopefully will have all of that out of their system.

Aramis Ramirez was the man at the plate for the Cubs as he once again went deep. Ramirez tied the game in the fifth inning with a three run home run but that would be the last scoring that the Cubs would do.

Milton Bradley had the Cubs first rbi in the fourth inning when he knocked in Ryan Theriot with a sac fly. The team would then get two more runs in the fourth inning when Reed Johnson singled in Derrek Lee and Ramirez.

Just not enough offense to keep up with the bad pitching performance. The Cubs and Astros will play a day game on Wednesday as the continue on in the four game set. This is a big game as the Cubs are now a half game behind the Cardinals in the division.
