Cubs to try Kosuke Fukudome in center field

Submitted by Cliff on Monday, 17 March 2008 2 Comments

The Chicago Cubs are going to play Kosuke Fukudome in center field for a couple of games during spring training.  The plan is to get his feet wet just incase he is needed during the season at the position.  Fukudme is still planned to be the everyday right fielder for the Cubs so don’t put much into this right now.

The only way I see Fukudome moving to center field is if Felix Pie starts off very slow or gets injured.  Pie needs to play everyday and hopefully that is what the Cubs will do.  Fukudome would rather play right field as well so this is pretty much just an insurance deal.

I’m against this because Fukudome signed with the Cubs TO PLAY RF. He turned down offers from San Diego and the White Sox because they wanted him in LF and CF respectively.

I think he would do it if Pie got hurt/bombed/or if it was an emergency. Hopefully, we’ll avoid controversies. The only benefit is that it will let Murton play more.

I believe the Cubs Management should have signed a veteran Free Agent CF long ago. We, Cub fans, always hear about these so-called young phenoms that never pan out. Then it is too late either no one wants to trade us or we give far too much for a mediocre Free Agent. Wake Up Cubs!!
