Cubs make roster changes, Rusch and Bynum up

Submitted by Cliff on Wednesday, 23 August 2006 No Comment

The Cubs placed rookie right-hander Carlos Marmol on the disabled list and activated left-hander Glendon Rusch and utility player Freddie Bynum. Bynum takes Neifi Perez’s spot on the roster after Perez was dealt to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday for a Minor League catcher.

Rusch had been sidelined with soreness in his left elbow and was expected to be activated on Tuesday, but the Cubs bullpen is thin and the left-hander was needed now.

Bynum had been rehabbing from a blood clot in his right shoulder, and batted .227 (5-for-22) in six games in a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa. He was hitting .260 in 41 games for the Cubs before he was hurt.
