Cubs bounce back with 11-3 win

Submitted by Cliff on Wednesday, 29 April 2009 No Comment

What a difference a night makes for the Chicago Cubs. After dropping the first game down in Arizona 7-2, the Cubs bounced back and crushed the Diamondbacks 11-3 on Tuesday night. The team got a great performance out of Carlos Zambrano who tossed seven innings and had three hits including a home run. Big Z improved too 2-1 on the season and the home run was his 17th of his career.

It was great watching the game last night because the Cubs were actually hitting the ball! Alfonso Soriano stayed hot as he hit is seventh home run of the season. Mike Fontenot hit another home run as well in the game as he fills in for Aramis Ramirez at third base. Another player that had a great night at the plate was backup catcher Koyie Hill who collected three hits as he gave Geovany Soto a night off from behind the dish.

Talking about Aramis Ramirez, he tried to run before the game and test out his strained calf but he could not accelerate at all. Lou said that he would be re-examined in Chicago and the team would go from there. I’d expect to see Ramirez land on the disabled list. Good news about Derrek Lee however, he is expected to make his return to the lineup Wednesdsay afternoon as the Cubs and D-backs finish up their three game series.

The Cubs are now one game above .500 at 11-10 on the season. The have Wednesday’s game in Phoenix and then will head back to Chicago for two three-game series. The Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants will be coming to town.

Be back this afternoon!
