Cubs add 8 to the 40 man roster
The Chicago Cubs added eight minor league players to their 40-man roster Friday and designated outfielder Adam Greenberg for assignment.
In his one game with the Cubs on July 9, Greenberg was hit in the head by Florida’s Valeiro de los Santos on the first pitch he saw in the major leagues.
Greenberg, 24 and a ninth round pick of the Cubs in 2002, spent the majority of the season at Double-A West Tenn, where he hit .269 with 25 extra-base hits and 33 RBIs in 95 games. Poor guy gets hitted in the head in first at bat and that was it for him. Hopefully he will be picked up and have a good career in the Major Leagues.
The Cubs purchased the contracts of infielders Brian Dopirak and Scott Moore, outfielder Felix Pie, catcher Jose Reyes and pitchers Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall, Ricky Nolasco and Jae Kuk Ryu. The also sent infielders Mike Fontenot and Richard Lewis and pitcher Russ Rohlicek outright to Triple-A Iowa.
Pie, 20, is considered one of the top prospects in the Cubs’ farm system. He batted .304 at West Tenn last season. Boy, can’t we all wait until Felix Pie makes it to the Big Leagues. Lets just hope he isn’t rushed like Corey Patterson was.
