The Cubs lost another 1 run ballgame today as they fell 6-5 to the Texas Rangers as the Rangers took the Interleague Series against the Cubs.
Ted Lilly and the Cubs got behind by five runs early in the ball game and the battled back with a huge 5th inning that seen the Cubs score 4 runs. Mike Fontenot, Derrek Lee, Mark DeRosa, Rob Bowen, and Angel Pagan all had key hits in the inning. In the 6th inning, Derrek Lee had another hit that plated Alfonso Soriano to tie the game for the Cubs.
It wasn’t meant to be as the Rangers were able to push across a run in the bottom of the ninth after Kenny Lofton started off the inning with a single to left field that just came out of Soriano’s glove as he made a diving attempt to catch the ball. The Rangers then bunted Lofton over to second and in scoring position. Bob Howry then got the ball on a groundball back to the pitchers mound and caught Lofton off the base and attempted to run him back to the bag and get him out in a rundown, but that didn’t work out at all as Lofton was able to make it back to the bag before Cesar Izturis was able to put down the tag. You can tell then the Cubs were going to lose this ballgame. They always make some stupid mistake that costs them the ballgame and today it happened again… The next batter, Frank Catalanotto then singled to deep left field that scored Lofton and gave the Rangers the win.
What a dissapointing series with the Rangers. The Cubs could have swept this team if they would have just had a few clutch hits and not made stupid mistakes in the field. Now they travel to the Southside to start a series with the hated White Sox tomorrow. Huge series with the Brewers on fire, the Cubs have got to keep this thing around 5 games atleats at the all-star break.
It was not a good night for Jason Marquis and the Chicago Cubs. Marquis got hit hard, and had four walks, four earned runs, and two homeruns allowed all in a short five innings. I’m pretty sure every batter he walked ended up coming around and scoring a run for the Rangers. Can’t win ballgames when you get behind so early…
Alfonso Soriano went 3-4 at the plate including his 12th homerun of the season. Koyie Hill hit is first major league homerun that was a two run shot in the seventh inning. It was not enough though as the Rangers offense was on fire last night. Well I shouldn’t give them that much credit as the Cubs played terrible defense as well.
I would like to say congrats to Sammy Sosa who hit homerun #600 last night off Jason Marquis. Steriods, corked bats, or not, I still like Sammy and hopefully he gets traded to a contender for a playoff run.

The Cubs got a big win lastnight down in Arlington, Texas as they beat the Rangers 5-4. What was so great about the win was seeing the bullpen throw five strong innings and not allow one hit! Carlos Marmol pitched three great innings, Bob Howry threw the eigth inning, and closer Ryan Dempster finished up the ballgame in the ninth picking up his 16th save on the season.
There were plenty of Cubs fans down at the game as alot of them went to also see former Cubs Sammy Sosa try to his homerun #600. It wasn’t meant to happen last night as Sosa struckout three times.
Leading the Cubs at the plate was Felix Pie with a triple and two RBI, and Derrek Lee who went 2-5 and had the game winning RBI in the sixth inning.
Both teams will play again tonight as Jason Marquis will face off against Kameron Loe. Gametime is set for 7:35 central time.
