| Since entering the Cubs' starting
rotation just prior to the 2002 All-Star Game, Carlos has posted
a 3.07 ERA in 79 starts (176 ER/516.2 IP) - with an average of
more than 6.5 innings per outing...was selected to the National
League All-Star for the first time in 2004...was the youngest
Cub in franchise history to pitch in an All-Star Game...was honored
as the NL Pitcher of the Month for September 2004...when he made
his Cubs/major league debut as a 20-year-old on August 20, 2001,
he became the first player born during the decade of the 1980s
to appear in a game for the Cubs...highlights of his minor league
career include: being named to The Sporting News' end-of-season
Triple-A all-prospect team in 2001...being chosen to the Howe
Sportsdata all-prospect and all-teen teams in 2000...attended
Unidad Educativa Creacion School in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela.
2006 Highlights:
Zambrano matched his career high with 16 wins despite going winless
in his first six starts in April. Zambrano was 6-0 with a 4.15
ERA in July and won Pitcher of the Month honors. He ranked among
the NL leaders in ERA, strikeouts and wins, but also was first
in walks. Zambrano did better away from Wrigley Field, posting
a 9-1 road record and a 2.97 ERA.
2005 Highlights:
Zambrano struck out 200 for the first time in his career. One
of his best games was one in which he didn't get a decision. On
July 22, Zambrano and St. Louis' Chris Carpenter both went nine
innings. Big Z matched his career high with 12 strikeouts, and
both starters gave up one run each. The Cubs won in extra innings.
He went 8-2 with a 2.65 ERA in the second half. |
