Can we get a real bullpen please?
How many times are we going to have to write about a game where the Cubs bullpen once again sucked it up? The Cubs had comeback and got the score to 4-5 when pitch hitter Ryan Theriot hit a two-run homer, but the very next inning the Marlins pushed across four runs when Michael Wuertz started to walk batters and give up hits.
Wuertz pitched one inning giving up three hits, two walks, along with four earned runs. Why can’t you just throw strikes and get some outs? This entire bullpen sucks and some shakeups need to happen.
Do we need to send you all to the minor leagues, or the ones that have options left? Lets bring up some young kids and see what the hell they can do. I don’t know what else to say right now. All the Cubs fans are pissed off at the bullpen.

Their bullpen is pathetic. I think some of the problem also has to do with how Lou is managing it and close game situations. Prime example the end of the 6th in the Dodgers game, Hill only threw 66 pitches, though with no one on and already 2 outs he takes out Hill to PH D. Ward. I thought that was a terrible decision, that left it up to the pen, who this year is just short of definition of horrible to salvage 3 more innings. I dont think that Eyre should even be in the bigs and I think that in close game situations Lou handles the games very poorly. Cubs pen has lost 14 games and the Cubbies are 2-13 in 1 run ballgames…some or most of that is in the managerial skills of Sweet Lou.
The Bullpen is the only problem; I was listening last night when Len and Bob said the Cubs were at the top of the NL in runs scored. So are Bats are doing the job but we need help! Derosa and Barrett we lost last night too those mistakes do not help.
Frank, you are right about DeRosa and Barrett last night. They both admitted they made two stupid plays and really weren’t thinking. Brain fart I guess.
What are our options in the pen at this point? Eyre cannot come into a ballgame that is for sure. We can’t send Marmol out there every game. Ohman has had his share of “Suck” this year as well.
Is there a chance that we could get desperate and either trade away a arm like Guzman or Marmol or bring up to see how Smardjzia would be…?
I have a feeling that by the trade deadline a guy from our Outfield barage of players like Murton, Jones, Pie,Pagan or even Floyd could be packaged up with a young arm like Marmol and or Guzman and traded away for some pen help. I see it as a real possiblity, and it’s now starting to be talked about realistically…
I’ll tell you what I see as far as trading players.
Murton or Jones is gone along with an arm like Marmol. I wish we could trade Eyre or Ohman but I don’t see that happening.
No way do we bring up a youngster like Samardzija who has struggled a little bit and doesn’t have enough pitches at this point to be a major league reliever.
