Bye Bye Jason Marquis

jason marquis traded to the rockiesJason Marquis is officialy not a member of the Chicago Cubs anymore. I know some of the Cubs fans out there are really happy. It will shed salary off the payroll and also open up a spot on the rotation. Well atleat when Marquis wasn’t skipped over lol.

Marquis was traded to the Colorado Rockies for relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino. It doesn’t sound like much of a trade but it was more about shedding Marquis contract then getting a highly rated player in return. Vizcaino was 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in 43 games last season with the Rockies, with 49 strikeouts over 46 innings. He has been around the league quite a bit as he has been in the league for ten seasons, but has yet to really stick with one team for a long period of time.

General manger Jim Hendry said that the team would be looking to add another starting pitcher for Feb 14th when Spring training kicks off. We will have to see if that happens. If not look for lefty Sean Marshall and right-handers Angel Guzman, Kevin Hart and Chad Gaudin. Jeff Samardzija also is a long shot he said.

Jason Marquis was a good example of what/who the cubs have always been in my mind.. lots of potential, flashes of brilliance, but never quite there. He had some good games with us. But in a year or two, i’ll probably see him pitching for another team and think to myself, hmm.. where do i know that name? oh yeah, he played for the cubs before. guess i won’t miss him too much.
