Biography & Career Highlights:

Bob signed a three-year contract with the Cubs in November 2005 ... the right-handed reliever has seen big league action with three other clubs, as he has pitched in the majors for the Chicago White Sox (1998-2002), Boston (2002-2003) and Cleveland (2004-2005) ... has worked solely out of the bullpen, going 25-26 with 107 holds and 52 saves in 434 games - all while limiting opponents to a .235 batting average ... began his professional career after being selected in the fifth round of the June 1994 draft out of McNeese State University (LA) ... attended Yavapai Junior College in Prescott, Ariz., and was on the team that won the Junior College World Series in 1993 ... graduated from Deer Valley High School (AZ) in 1991.

2006 Highlights:
Howry set a career high for appearances (84). He held opponents scoreless in 66 of those outings, and led the team with 21 holds. He tied Ted Abernathy (1965) and Dick Tidrow (1980) for first on the Cubs' all-time list for most relief appearances in a season since 1900.

2005 Highlights:
Bob had one of the most successful seasons of his career, going 7-4 with a 2.47 ERA in 79 games ... set career marks in wins, ERA, holds (29) and opponents batting average against (.191) ... ranked 10th among American League relievers in ERA ... also was third in the league in holds, tied for third in appearances, tied for fourth in wins (by a reliever) and seventh in opponents batting average against (by a reliever) ... stranded 27 of his 33 inherited runners (18.2 percent scored) ... crafted a 0.99 ERA (4 ER/36.1 IP) in 37 games after the All Star Break ... opponents batted a miniscule .146 off the reliever ... had a season-high 13.1-consecutive scoreless innings streak August 3-September 3 ... gave up 6 hits and 1 walk while fanning 8 batters over the 14-game streak ... committed a fielding error on September 3 at Minnesota ... it was his first error since June 26, 2002 - a 137-game span ... surrendered 2 or more earned runs just four times all season ... recorded a 1.26 ERA in his remaining 75 games ... did not allow an earned run over a 21-game span from August 3-September 19 ... allowed 10 hits and 2 walks while striking out 13 batters ... limited opponents to a .137 average over the 21.1 innings ... won a career-high four straight decisions April 17-June 15 ... recorded his 50th career save May 28, working 1.0 scoreless inning in a 6-3 defeat of Oakland.
