Well the Cubs beat the Pirates on Friday and Saturday however mother nature had something to say as they attempted to go for the sweep on Sunday. The game was postponed until a later date and now the Cubs look forward to a huge series against the San Diego Padres. Can the Cubs catch the Cardinals or grab the wild card?
The Cubs continue to struggle as they were beaten by the Phillies 6-1 on Thursday afternoon. The Phillies pretty much dominated the series at Wrigley Field. The three game sweep for the Phillies was the first since 1984 for them at Wrigley. Will the Cubs start throwing the ball better and knocking in some runs?
It was another bad night for the Cubs as the Phillies roughed up Jeff Samardzija and Sean Marshall for 12 runs in the first four innings. Pedro Martinez pitched well enough and changed speeds nicely to keep the Cubs offense guessing at the plate. Four games back, can this team get on a roll anytime soon?
It was a game that the Cubs could have won, but once again they shot themselves in the foot and lost a close one in 12 innings to the Philadelphia Phillies. Carlos Marmol walked in a run in the 8th inning and then Kevin Gregg gave up a home run in the 12th inning as the Cubs lose 4-3.
