Are the Cubs really this bad?

Submitted by Cliff on Friday, 4 June 2010 5 Comments

The 2010 season has been down right awful for the Chicago Cubs. Fans are getting upset, players are not having fun and you can bet that manger Lou Piniella is getting pretty pissed off and is about really to explode on a player or umpire if they don’t pull things together down in Houston this weekend.

Hell, the Cubs can’t even beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. Zero hitting, bad bullpen at times, and some questionable managerial moves by Piniella have everyone thinking if the Cubs can actually turn things around or if there will be a fire sale with the likes of Derrek Lee or Xavier Nady being traded.

There were reports coming out of LA that the Angels might be looking at Lee or Nady to fill in at first base have Morales went down with his broken leg. Lee does have a no trade clause and I’m not sure if he would accept a trade to LA but then again a change of scenery just might help him at the plate.

So what has happened with the Cubs offense? Aramis Ramirez is down right TERRIBLE. The guy should have been put on the disabled list and played some rehab games down in Triple-A. Of course A-Ram would never do that because he thinks he can discover his swing with 10 at bats in spring training. Yeah that sure helped ya Aramis!

You aren’t going to win very many ball games when you only score one or two runs like the Cubs are currently doing. They need Ramirez, Ryan Theriot, Geovony Soto, and Lee to step up and get their swings back. Work with the hitting coach some, I don’t care how well you know your swing, it’s been two months and you are still not hitting the damn ball!

So I predict that Lou erupts down in Houston this weekend as the team continues to struggle and only win one out of three games against the Astros and fall further behind in the Central division. This just isn’t the cubs year I’m afraid.

If the Cubs could get rid of Lee it would be great. He ruins more rallys and has probably hit into more double plays or struck out with the game on the line, more this year, than any major other league player.Even in good years he was never a good clutch hitter.
His home run and batting average in good years were disproportionate
to his R B I,s. Pinnella keeps him hitting third which is stupid.
Pinnella keeps waiting for the 3 run homer which never comes. With this poor hitting team you have to play small ball.
I cant imagine any team willing to give much for Lee or anyone
else on the team except pitchers or Castro and they shouldn’t be for
    sale.

I have been a devoted fan of the Cubs for years and years and I have kept my mouth shut for as long as I possibly could! I played college baseball at Indiana State and I know every player runs into cold streaks at times. But every player at the same time and for the whole season? Something is really wrong and I think I know where it starts and ends. Lou Pinella! I was watching the Cubs pitcher Randy Wells put down a sacrifice bunt and practically walk down to first base today. An errant throw went to first and Randy would have been safe if he would have just jogged down there! There is a reason why the Reds are in first place and the Cubs are just plain terrible! There is NO excuse for not hustling on ANY play! I dont care if you are the pitcher! EVERY player on that team should know if you dont hustle you dont play! PERIOD! I totally disagree with the way Carlos Zambrano handled his situation last week, but at least somebody showed some emotion! I watch the Cubs everyday and I dont see any sense of urgency. Lou keeps going with the same ole lineup everyday! Having Derek Lee hitting third everyday is just plain stupid! Bring up Sam Fuld! I know he probably isnt the long term answer but he will at least bring a spark to this lifeless team! I’m just sick n tired of seeing the same crap day in and day out!

Hey Jim Hendry…get with it!!! You have a new skipper and he’s right under your nose. He’s the guy with the smile on his face…the guy who is finally getting the most out of the team. The Cubs are playing looser and more confident. Forget about interviewing all those other guys…go for Mike Quade. As soon as he took over, you could see the
difference. He instantly started making smarter choices during the game. The players respect him too…you can see it. Come on Jim…take out your pen and contract and ink Mike Q!!! Do it now!!!
