Cubs lose an ugly one in Denver

Manager Lou Piniella was ejected after a terrible call in the second inning of the Cubs / Rockies game on Sunday and the team did not respond like some teams do after their manager is thrown out. After a ugly 11-5 loss in Denver, the Cubs are now two full games behind the league leading St. Louis Cardinals.

Cubs hold off Reds in 6-3 victory

Tom Gorzelanny made his Cubs debut and he was marvelous as he allowed just three hits and one run in 7 and 1/3 innings. The Cubs offense helped him out with solo home runs from Kosuke Fukudome and Derek Lee. Koyie Hill had a great at bat in the sixth to drive in two runs as well. But what’s going on with the bullpen?!

Wells wins his eighth as Cubs beat Reds 4-2

Randy Wells had a shutout going into the eighth inning as he picked up his eighth win of the year and the Cubs beat the Reds 4-2. It was Well’s fourth straight win as he continues to throw the ball well. The offensive MVP has to go to Mike Fontenot who hit a three run home run off Aaron Harang.

Cubs have a bad series down in Miami

The Chicago Cubs dropped two out of three games down in Miami to the Marlins as the bullpen blew leads and the offense didn’t score very many runs. Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg both pitched terribly. If Gregg continues to throw meatballs, it’s time to try Angel Guzman in the closers role.
