As the Chicago Cubs offense continues to struggle, general manager Jim Hendry decided to finally make a move. Hitting coach Gerald Perry was fired and Von Joshua, a hitting coach at Triple A Iowa was hired. Hopefully the players can react better to Joshua and get out of this nasty slump.
It was another one run loss for the Cubs on Thursday as Geoff Blum knocked in the game winning run off of Jose Ascanio in the 13th inning. The damn offense just can’t score any runs for the starting pitchers who have been throwing the ball very well. Ryan Dempster got a no decision even though he went seven innings.
The Cubs were looking to win the second game of the series against the Astros and things looked good with Carlos Zambrano on the mound for them. However, the offense never showed up and the Astros would end up scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win. The Cubs offense once again was TERRIBLE.
The Cubs got a great starting performance out of Ted Lilly as the threw 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball and the Cubs beat the Astros 7-1. Finally the offense came around and had 16 hits in the game as five different players had rbi’s. Great game all around as the Cubs moved into a tie for second place.
