Cubs acquire Ryan Freel from the Orioles

Intead of sending Joey Gathright down too the minor leagues or releasing him, Jim Hendry found a trade partner this afternoon and sent Gathright packing to the Baltimore Orioles. In exchange, the Cubs will receive Ryan Freel. I think this is a great trade. What’s your thoughts?

Randy Wells Up, Joey Gathright Down ?

The Chicago Cubs are expected to send Joey Gathright down to the minor leagues when they officially announce the call up of Randy Wells this afternoon. Wells will be starting tonight’s game as he fills in for Carlos Zambrano who is on the dl. Gathright could refuse the demotion and lose his salary and become a free agent.

Soriano’s two home runs lead the Cubs past the Astros

Thanks to a two home run night by Alfonso Soriano, the Chicago Cubs held off the Houston Astros and took the final game of a short two game series by the score of 8-5. The bullpen tried giving up the lead in the ninth, but Kevin Gregg came in and finally ended the Astros rally.

Cubs take game one against the Astros

Rich Harden threw into the eighth inning and the Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros 6-3 on Wednesday night. Rich Harden threw into the eighth inning while picking up the win and Reed Johnson supplied the lumber with a three run triple in the first inning to get the Cubs bats going. Aramis Ramirez added a solo home run as well.
