The Cubs seven game winning streak was snapped today against the Milwaukee Brewers and it was a big old woodshack beating. Sean Marshall only lasted two innings giving up seven runs on seven hits. The Brewers just hit the ball all over the ballpark and they were hard hit balls as well.
Lou Piniella pretty much pulled the main starters after the fifth inning to get them a little bit of a rest before tomorrows game. It was 9-2 at that point so I have no problem with Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano being pulled out of the lineup.
Tomorrow is another day for the Cubs and Brewers. It will be Dave Bush against Jason Marquis at 1:20 central time. Lets go win this game and take the series against the Brew Crew!
Also today, the Cubs sent Billy Petrick to Triple A and called up Rocky Cherry so they could have a fresh arm in the bullpen.

Holy Cow what a game for the Chicago Cubs. Once again they had to come from behind and this time by five runs which Rich Hill gave up all in the first inning. Aramis Ramirez shocked the Wrigley Field crowd today with a 9th inning two-run homer to left-center field to give the Cubs their seventh win in a row!
That’s exactly how you want to start a series against the Brewers. We will take a win any way we can get it, I don’t care how ugly it is! Yeah, Rich Hill only threw three innings, he sucked the entire first inning leaving curve balls up that got hit hard, but the Cubs bullepen shut the door the final six innings and really stepped up. It will be hard to see how the bullpen responds tomorrow and Sunday however as they all have some very tired arms.
It is the ninth inning that has everyone talking today however. With one out in the Chicago ninth against Francisco Cordero (0-2) and trailing 5-3, Alfonso Soriano and Mike Fontenot each singled. Soriano then scored on Derrek Lee’s sacrifice fly. Ramirez hit the first pitch into the left-field bleachers.
We can probably expect to see a minor league reliver brought up tonight or early tomorrow morning to help out. Who do we send down is the question? Can we please just release Cesar Izturis?
Tomorrows game will be on FOX at 2:55 central time so make sure you have your work all done by the afternoon and lets watch the Cubs and Brewers tangle again!

The Cubs continue their good play today as they swept the Colorado Rockies with a 6-4 win today. That is now the Cubs sixth win in a row and their highest winning streak of the season. Now if we can just get those pesky Brewers to lose! Oh yeah, they are coming to Wrigley for a three game series starting Friday. HUGE series and the Cubs need to go atleast 2 out of 3 against the Brew Crew.
Mark DeRosa and Mike Fontenot both had homeruns for the Cubbies as they got out to a big lead early in the ballgame. DeRosa finished the game with three RBI’s and Fontonet had one. Angel Pagan and Ryan Theriot also chipped in with one RBI each.
Carlos Zambrano picked up his ninth win on the season. Carlos has really came on in the last 6 ballgames and is pitching like the pitcher he really is. Zambrano threw six innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. He did have eight strikeouts and three walks also.
Billy Petrick made his Major League Debut today throwing 1.2 innings. He had a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh with two strikeouts in the inning. He was clocked at 97 in the inning as well. He did run into some trouble in the top of the eight inning as Garrett Atkins hit a two run homer off of him. Will Ohman then came in and got the final out of the inning. Carlos Marmol pitched a great inning in the ninth to finish off the Rockies.
GO CUBS GO!

The Jacque Jones to the Marlins trade was called off in the late afternoon yesterday. A money snag was said to have killed the deal, so instead of shaking hands with his friends and teammates, Jones was saying hello again.
For whatever reason the Marlins wanted the Cubs to pay more of the 7.2 million that Jones will be owed over the next two years. The Cubs had offered to pay 6.6 million leaving the Marlins paying the league minimum for Jones basically.
For now, Jones is still a Cub but Jim Hendry has told him that he will be out there looking for other deals. Jones is aware of everything, I just wonder if it will affect his gameplay? Well it can’t get any worse can it?

The Cubs continued their winning ways tonight as they beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are still 7.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers as they beat the Astros tonight but as long as the Cubs keep on winning good things will happen for them.
The Cubs first scored in the first inning when Alfonso Soriano scored on a double by Aramis Ramirez. Cliff Floyd then smoked a two-run homerun to right field to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead. Mike Fontenot, Koyie Hill, Mark DeRosa, and Felix Pie all had RBI’s for the Cubs as well. I love seeing an offensive performace like this where it is more then one playing producing for the team.
Ted Lilly picked up his sixth win on the season as he went 6 innings. He did give up four earned runs on five walks and five strikeouts. I don’t like those walks and normally your team is going to lose when your starting pitchers allows five walks but tonight the Cubs offense helped out the pitchers.
Michael Wuertz, Carlos Marmol, and Will Ohman pitched the final three innings for the Cubs. Ohman picked up his first career save as he got the last out in the ninth inning when he got Todd Helton to popup to short.
The Cubs have now won five straight and will be going for the sweep tomorrow afternoon as it will be Jason Hirsh (3-6) facing off against Carlos Zambrano (8-6). I look for Zambrano to have a very good game tomorrow and the Cubs completing this three game sweep.
Cubs are playing great right now, have you got your Cubs Tickets? If not you have got to purchase them from a great supplier like StubHub! Where fans buy and sell tickets! 100% guranteed!

Ryan Dempster has been placed on the disabled list retro-active to last Saturday. To take his place Billy Petrick has been called up from West Tennessee like we mentioned earlier today.
In another move, Wade Miller was moved to the 60-day disabled list. I don’t know why he just doesn’t get released. He isn’t going to do anything for the Cubs other then take up a roster spot somewhere in the minors.

More Jacque Jones rumors like we blogged about earlier! So far I have heard that Jones has indeed cleaned out his locker this afternoon and has been traded to the Flordia Marlins for a single A pitcher.
So far nothing official has been released but this is the early rumors about Jacque headed to the Flordia Marlins. Hopefully the Cubs don’t have to pick up much of his salary as they are only getting a single A pitcher back in return.
**** A quick update as this trade hasn’t happened yet but could still be being worked on. Appears the Marlins are trying to get Hendry and the Cubs to take on more of the Jones salary.***

Ok what a wild one at Wrigley Field tonight as the Cubs came back to win 10-9 even after blowing a 8-3 lead in the 9th inning. I’m doing to do a weird update here as I had two articles wrote up and I’m going to post them both for the hell of it!
The Chicago Cubs picked up their fourth win a row with a 8-3 victory over the visting Colorado Rockies Monday night. Mike Fontenot led the way going 5 for 5 with two doubles and three singles. Fontonet also had two RBI’s to go along with the five hits. Fontonet wasn’t the only former LSU player to have a great game as Ryan Theriot also went 2 for 2 as he came into the game as a pitch hitter late in the ballgame.
Mark DeRosa and Angel Pagan also played well on the offensive side of the game. DeRosa went 2 for 4 with three RBI’S. Pagan had a three-run homer in the 1st inning that gave the Cubs a 4-1 lead.
Jason Marquis pitched well enough to pick up the win as he threw 5.2 innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs. It wasn’t a great performance but he got the job done and got out jams when he needed too. When your offense scores eight runs, you don’t have to be on the top of your game for your team to get the win so his line doesn’t look as bad tonight.
Michael Wuertz, Scott Eyre, and Bob Howry closed out the ballgame. It wasn’t the best showing by Eyre and Howry as they let the Rockies get back in the game in the bottom of the ninths really good to see the bullpen closing out games and not allowing the opposing team to score runs at the end of the ball game lately. That is how the Cubs are going to make a run a the Milwaukee Brewers and the Central Division.
The same two teams will battle it out again tomorrow night at 7:05 central time. Rodrigo Lopez (4-0) will take the mound against Ted Lilly (5-4)
or wait lol!
What a terrible showing by Bob Howry and Scott Eyre tonight as they gave up six runs in the top of the 9th inning as the Rockies came back to beat the Chicago Cubs 8-9. How the hell can you give up six runs without getting an out in the 9th? I don’t even know what to say right now lol. I do have to say what the hell was Piniella thinking the way he managed the bullpen tonight? It didn’t look like he had a clue out there. He went out to the mound and thought he had a pitcher warming up and there was no one, so Eyre was left to face another batter. Howry had to come into the game without warming up as he usually does and well we know what happened.
Mike Fontenot led the way for the Cubs going 5 for 5 with two doubles and three singles.
Talk about up and down tonight. I don’t know what else to say other then Eyre and Howry sucked it up in the ninth and the Cubs lost. Umm go get em tomorrow guys? Hell I can’t even say that tonight.
Well lets wait again LOL! We all know what happened now as Alfonso Soriano hit a game winning single to give the Cubs the come from behind win.
Umm what do you all think about the game? Is there really a Cubs god?

What a great series for the Chicago Cubs this weekend as they swept the South Side Rivals in a three game series. Great starting pitching and great bullpen pitching equals wins and that is what this series was all about.
Sean Marshall threw 6 scoreless innings for the Cubs and only gave up five hits. He had three strikeouts and only one walk so that was good as well. Carlos Marmol, Will Ohman, and Bob Howry completed the last 3 innings of the ballgame. Howry picked up another save as he is filling in for Ryan Dempster who is still taking a few games off to hear a injury.
Alfonso Soriano stayed hot as he hit his 15th homerun of the season in the seventh inning. We need Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez to start hitting some bombs and this team can really start putting up the runs. It is nice to see them getting basehits no doubt, but we are going to need more homeruns for Lee to really help out the team.
The Cubs will now start a series with the Colorado Rockies Monday night at Wrigley Field. The Rockies were just one-hit in Toronto and were also swept in the three game series. Lets get another series win and hopefully a sweep as we make a push towards the Milwaukee Brewers!
