Yee Yaw, what else can we say about this Cubs team right now? No offense and terrible pitching have put this team into a big time slump. No body can do anything and if we do get a decent game the bullpen just blows it in the late innings.
It’s hard to be a Cubs fan right now. We were so excited to watch this team play and figured they would be scoring some runs and getting some wins, but nothing is happening at this point in the season.
Just like tonight, the Cubs got crushed 9-0 by the Florida Marlins because of terrible pitching and no offense what so ever. Ted Lilly (4-3) gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over seven innings, and lost for the first time since April 20. The left-hander came into the game having given up only four home runs over 64 2/3 innings; he served up three Wednesday.
The Cubs held a players only meeting before the game, but it didn’t stop their losing ways. They’ve now lost eight of their last 10 games, and were shutout for the second time this season.
It’s tough to look right now because we have the Atlanta Braves coming into town for a series on Friday. The only good thing is that the Central Division sucks just as bad as the Cubs do lol. So the Cubs are still only six games out of first place and if we can somehow get it to within 2-3 games by the All-Star break I would be happy!

How many times are we going to have to write about a game where the Cubs bullpen once again sucked it up? The Cubs had comeback and got the score to 4-5 when pitch hitter Ryan Theriot hit a two-run homer, but the very next inning the Marlins pushed across four runs when Michael Wuertz started to walk batters and give up hits.
Wuertz pitched one inning giving up three hits, two walks, along with four earned runs. Why can’t you just throw strikes and get some outs? This entire bullpen sucks and some shakeups need to happen.
Do we need to send you all to the minor leagues, or the ones that have options left? Lets bring up some young kids and see what the hell they can do. I don’t know what else to say right now. All the Cubs fans are pissed off at the bullpen.

Once again, the Cubs could not get the key hit that the needed throughout the game. The Cubs bats didn’t come alive until the 9th inning today and they still fell short by a few runs to the Florida Marlins.
Sean Marshall thres 6.1 innings and gave up two earned runs and deserved much better but the offense was dead for eight innings and was not able to score any runs for the pitching staff. Scott Eyre sucked it up once again as Lou put him right back out there but he didn’t respond very well once again.
The Cubs gave us all a little bit of hope in the ninth as they scored three runs, and had the game winning run at the plate when Aramis Ramirez struck out to end the ballgame.
Why can’t this team get it going earlier in the game we have to ask? If they ever did get a rally going, it was always with two outs. You have gotta get a few guys on with 0 outs and then have a few hits to score the runs. It’s too hard to do everything with two outs, or in the ninth inning.

In a game where the offenses both stunk it up it was a hit batter that won the game for the Dodgers today. Carlos Marmol plunked Juan Pierre in the 11th inning that gave the Dodgers the win.
The Cubs got on the board in the 8th inning when Derrek Lee singled in Alfonso Soriano. In the bottom of the 8th, the Dodgers got on the scoreboard when Andre Ethier hit a homerun off lefty Scott Eyre. Eyre was pitching for the first time in a week since he last sucked, well he had the same result today. He still sucked it up, and you could really see Sweet Lou was very pissed off and really let Eyre know.
The Cubs could have really helped themself out with a win today as the Cardinals, Reds, and Brewers all lost. We have got to start winning some ballgames as all the other teams in the Central Division are sucking it up.

Cubs bullpen loses aother one as Bob Howry, Angel Guzman, and Will Ohman couldn’t get the job done in the 8th inning allowing four dodger runs to score.
I didn’t have a chance to watch the game last night as I had to go to my sister-in-law’s dance recital but from what I have read from reports is this. Ted Lilly had his worst outing of the season so far, lasting only 4.1 innings. The Cubs then battled back with doubles from the bats of Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, Jacque Jones, and Mark DeRosa. But once again it was the bullpen that gave the game back to the opposing team.
For those of you that were able to watch the game, care to leave some comments about it?

Finally the Cubs win a game! The Cubbies got a clutch hit in the 9th inning with the game tied 1-1 when Cliff Floyd hit a grounder to second base that scored Derrek Lee who got in just before the tag. That is what I have been stressing about the past few days here on Chicago Cubs Blog. You have got to find ways to win close ballgames and last night the Cubs did.
Jason Marquis pitched another outstanding ballgame. He gave up one run on five hits over seven innings, and was aided by three well-timed double plays to end the second, fourth and seventh innings. Marquis, who had won five straight decisions coming into the game, struck out five.
Bob Howry picked up the win in a relief role. Ryan Dempster pitched a great ninth inning to pick up the save for the Cubs. It was nice to see Howry and Dempster throw strikes and get outs! Hey, I think we might do ok as long as Scott Eyre and Will Ohman don’t get in the ballgame!
The Cubs boarded a bus to Los Angeles where they will start a three game series with the Dodgers. The Dodgers just got done beating up on the Brewers so I would expect the Cubs to have their hands full again this weekend.

All it took was one bad pitch by Sean Marshall for the San Diego Padres to beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 last night at Petco Park. Up until that pitch, Marshall was throwing a really good game. He was making his debut this year after going through an extended spring training and minor league stint.
The Cubs offense once again sucked. Once again they could not come up with the clutch hit to score that key run in the ballgame. They had a great chance to tie the game in the top of the ninth when Mark DeRosa tripled off the right field wall with two outs. Then for some damn reason, Jacque Jones was called upon to pitch hit for Cesar Izturis. I agree with pitch hitting, but no way would I have thrown Jacque Jones up there. He has been struggling so bad this season with the bat. I would rather have seen Daryle Ward up there. He has proved to be a good pitch hitter and is used to playing that role.
The Cubs and Padres will battle it out in another night game tonight. Jason Marquis will take his 5-1 record against Chris Young who is 5-3 on the year. If the Cubs can get some baserunners on tonight, expect a lot of stolen bases as Young cannot hold runners on and runners are 15-15 in stolen base attempts off him.

Rich Hill sure wasn’t himself in last nights game out in San Diego. Petco Park usually plays as a pitchers park but last night the Padres hit Hill for four solo homeruns. Hill is probably glad that the month of May is almost over has he has went 1-3 with a 5.87 ERA during the month.
Did anyone else notice that Jake Peavy has a ton of movement similar to Greg Maddux? How many times last night did he throw an outside fastball but have it come back over the corner of the plate for a strike? He did it plenty of times and each time he would get the call because he was being consistant.
The Cubs really never got anything going against Peavy besides in the first inning when they were able to score one run on a Cliff Floyd RBI single to center. The good thing about that inning is that Peavy had to throw 30 pitches in the inning and he only last six innings total. That is when the Cubs got the chances in the later innings but they were never able to get that clutch hit to get the game closer.
Tonights game we will see Sean Marshall make his 2007 debut against David Wells.

For 19 years, shortstop Ernie Banks was a fixture at Wrigley Field. Now, the Chicago Cubs will make sure “Mr. Cub” will always be there to greet fans.
The Cubs announced Tuesday that it will honor Banks, a Hall of Famer, with a statue to be erected at Wrigley by Opening Day of next year.
“This is richly deserved for Ernie Banks and it is a great way to honor ‘Mr. Cub,’” team president John McDonough said. “The statue will help immortalize someone who continues to have a tremendous impact on the Cubs and its fans, just as he did while he was on the playing field.”
The statue’s exact location at Wrigley Field has yet to be determined. The Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany, the same company that produced the statue of Harry Caray at Wrigley and the Michael Jordan statue outside Chicago’s United Center, will commission the piece.
The Caray statue is the only other statue at Wrigley.
Banks spent his entire 19-year career with the Cubs. He is second in franchise history with 2,583 hits, 512 home runs and 1,636 RBIs and was National League MVP in 1958 and 1959. He was a 14-time All-Star and was enshrined into Cooperstown in 1977.

Neil Cott’s week just got off to a terrible start lol! After sucking his past few outings, Cotts was sent packing to Triple A Iowa. I had blogged about this yesterday, saying something would be happening with Cotts soon and sure enough not even 24 hours later he is on his way to Iowa.
Sean Marshall will be back with the big league team and will take over the #5 position in the rotation. I like this move a lot, especially with Angel Guzman being placed in the bullpen now.
What do you all think? Good or bad move?
