As most of you have probably already heard, the Cubs and Cardinals game for tonight has been postponed because of the death of Cardinal reliver Josh Hancock.  It is a true loss for the Cardinal family and we all wish them the best through this tragic accident.

It is the second time in five years that the Cardinals have had to deal with a tragic lose.  In 2002, starting pitcher Darryl Kile was found dead in the team hotel in Chicago.

Finally the Cubs got off to a good start and were able to hold onto the lead and grab a victory at Wrigley Field.  After waiting out a 1 hour and 11 minute rain delay, the Cubs played good defense, had good pitching, and got some nice hits as they salvaged one game from the Brewers in this three game series.

Ted Lilly gave up two runs on six hits over seven innings and struck out three.  Lilly also recorded his second career hit, and first since Sept. 19, 1999. In the third inning, Lilly was safe on an infield hit to short.  He had good control most of the day and that is all you can ask out of your starting pitcher is to throw strikes and keep your ballclub in the game.

The Cubs offense got going after Brewer starter Ben Sheets had to leave the game after the third inning with a right groin injury.  The Cubs then went on to score five times in the 4th inning.  Derrek Lee picked up his first homerun of the season with a solo shot in the 5th inning.

Tomorrow the Cubs are off, and then on Friday they start a huge series with the St. Louis Cardinals down in St. Louis.  If you don’t have tickets, Click Here Now!

Just as I had predicted, Mark Prior will miss the entire 2007 season after having shoulder surgery yesterday.  Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure in Birmingham, Ala. During the arthroscopy, Andrews performed a debridement of Prior’s right rotator cuff, as well as repaired the labral and capsular injuries in his right shoulder.

Prior began a comprehensive rehab program in Birmingham on Wednesday that will be overseen by Andrews and the Cubs’ medical staff.

It will be a long year in rehab for Mark Prior, we all hope he comes back from this injury and recovers and regains his form.  As Cubs fans, we have to hope for the best but expect the worse and that could be never seeing Mark Prior throw another pitch for the Cubs.  Hope it doesn’t come down to that, but this next year will let us know for sure.

The Cubs continue on their downword spiral as they lost the Brewers 4-1 tonight.

Rich Hill took the lost and his record is now 3-1 on the season.  He didn’t pitch that bad but made mistake pitches to Prince Fielder and Kevin Mench who both hit homeruns for the Brewers.  Hill mixed up his pitches pretty good but didn’t have the control that he did his past three starts.

The Cubs offenese was pretty bad, and never really got on track.  Anytime they had a few runners on a damn doubleplay would happen or they couldn’t get the key hit.  Seems like it is the same thing every damn game that is causing this team to lose pretty much.  If it isn’t the bad pitching, it is the terrible clutch hitting that the Cubs can’t come up with.

Tomorrow is an afternoon game and hopefully temperatures will be up to heat up the Cubs offense. I doubt that will happen though…

Mark Prior will have exploratory arthroscopic surgery today in hopes of determining what is wrong with the Cubs pitcher’s troublesome right shoulder.

Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery in Birmingham, Ala., Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Monday.

“Hopefully, [Andrews] can go in there and find something that isn’t major and hopefully help Mark’s career get back on track,” Hendry said.

I don’t expect any good news out of this and fully expect Prior to miss the entire season this year.  It’s a bad deal but how many times is he going to get hurt in his career?  His career could be over before we really got to see how great he could have been.

What do the Cubs have to do to win a close ballgame this year? Once again, the bullpen faltered and the Cubs eventually lost in the 12th inning when Prince Fielder hit his second homerun of the night to give the Brewers the win 5-4.

Right now the Cubs bullpen is playing terrible and can’t hold a one-run lead at all.  Scott Eyre this time gave up two runs in the eigth inning that tied the game for the Brewers.  Eyre and Will Ohman have just sucked ass this year so far.  You don’t even want to see them enter the game to be honest.

The Cubs now are 0-8 in games decided by one or two runs, and in last place in the National League Central.

Who wants to think that Sweet Lou gets ejected in one of the two next games? I’m guessing it will be today.  This team needs a spark, and it just might be Sweet Lou that can do it.

LOL!  You have just got to love this move by the Cubs. They sent Wade (needs to retire) Miller to the DL with so called “back spasms”.  Pretty much just a easy way of saying Miller you suck and don’t have a spot on the team but we aren’t going to send you down to the minors.

I love the move, as Rocky Cherry was really good in Spring Training and hopefully will continue that on with the big league club.  Lou had to get another bullpen pitcher on the roster as the starting pitchers for the most part have been pretty bad so far this season.

Miller, your days with Cubbies are numbered! Lets find you a trade partner and send along Jacque Jones as well please :)

It was a slugfest at Wrigley Field this afternoon as the wind was blowing out and the balls were flying everywhere!  It was not a day to be a pitcher just ask Wade Miller and Adam Wainwright.  No pitchers wants to pitch when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley Field.

It was Albert Pujols who had the final word today though, as he clubbed a three-run homer in the tenth inning to give the Cardinals the lead for good.

One thing that was impressive today to me was how each team battled back and never gave up.  You have got to love watching a game where everyone is out there trying their best.  It would have been nice to pick up the W but that won’t always happen.

The Cubs were holding a 1-0 lead until Cardinal Preston Wilson smashed a two-run homer in the 7th inning that gave the Cardinals the lead for good.

Ted Lilly pitched seven strong innings for the Cubs but it was that homerun that hurt him.  Usually if your pitcher gives up two runs you can still expect to win but not with the Cubs offese today.

It got interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning with Henry Blanco tried laying down a bunt with runners on first and second with no outs but he was called for interference with the catcher.  If not for that, the Cubs more then likely would have been out of the inning as a triple play would have happened.  Blanco didn’t run at all and just stood at homeplay… Gotta hustle Blanco!

Also got interesting in the bottom of the ninth when Jacque Jones received a walk, and Ronny Cedeno was stealing and went past the base and was called out.  Murton then popped out on the very next pitch and the Cubs were done.

The Cubs will try to even the series tomorrow with an afternoon game.  I hope to catch all of the game, but not sure what my schedule will be like.  Do you all expect to watch the game?
