We heard some rumors over the summer about Mark Cuban wanting to buy the Cubs as it would be a dream come true for him.  Well once again today, those rumors are hitting the websites and newspapers as reports are saying he is ready to make a $625 million dollar offer for the Chicago Cubs franchise.

Now, I would love to see Mark Cuban own the Cubs.  If you watch basketball, you will see how much emotion he puts into his team the Dallas Mavericks.  That is exactly what the Chicago Cubs need.  The need that emotion and attitude that says lets win and lets do it in style!  Cuban has the funds to spend and isn’t shy spending money on players or making a bigtime trade.  Exactly what the Cubs have been scared to do the past 20 years. Well ok except this last off season lol!

What do you guys think?  Do you think Cuban would be a good fit for the Chicago Cubs?  Do you think the Tribune would sell the Cubs for 625 million?  I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be suprised!

Man, what does Ron have to do to get into the Hall of Fame?  Are that many past players pissed off at him? The way he played the game?  The way he talked to reporters? What in the hell is the problem with these people not seeing how great of a ballplayer he was?

Santo received 57 votes for 69.5% but he needed to receive 62 votes for 75% to be elected.  The next time he will come up for election will be 2009.

I say get rid of this so called “veteran committe” if they aren’t ever going to elect someone…  Pretty damn sad.

Cubs radio announcer and former third-basement Ron Santo once again will be waiting for a phone call today and he is hoping that it is the Hall of Fame on the other end.  After falling just 8 votes shy of the Hall of Fame in 2005, Santo feels that this could be the year even though he doesn’t want to get to excited for it and have it not happen again.

It would be awesome to see Santo make it to the Hall of Fame.  He was one of the best third basement in his era of playing, only behind Brooks Robinson, who some thing Santo was even better then.  Santo’s numbers back up everything about being in the hall of fame, and if the veterans committee does not vote him in today, they might as well just get rid of it as they haven’t voted one player in since forming the group.

We wish you all the best Ron, you have been a pleasure to talk to in person, and always have a story for everyone!

Sorry for the lake of updates from Spring Training so far, I’ve been really busy.  If there is another Cubs Fan out there, that would like to start blogging about the Cubs and helping out with Chicagocubsblog.net then please email me and we can talk about it :)

Spring Training Pitching:
Jason Marquis will be starting the first spring training game for the Cubs on Thursday.  The Cubs will be taking on the SanFransico Giants that day, and you can expect the pitchers to each throw 1-2 innings.  Look for Carlos Zambrano to throw on Friday against the Angels.

We can also expect to see Jeff Samardzija get some playing time on Saturday.  I could see Samardzija possibly hitting the Triple A level this season, but for sure Double A if he throws strikes and has control of the ball.   The Cubs won’t want to extend his innings too much as he hasn’t thrown to much during college.

Kerry Wood and Mark Prior News:
Kerry Wood and Mark Prior are both healthy heading into the season.  We should be able to see Wood come out of the bullpen this weekend possibly and then see Mark Prior pitch next week.  Probably Monday or Tuesday.  Both pitchers have pitched to live batters during batting practice and the hitters said the balls were really moving and they both looked great. Time will tell, but atleast Prior and Wood aren’t doing towel drills lol!

Soriano getting set in centerfield:
New guy Alfonso Soriano says he is getting accustomed to centerfield and everything is going great.  His defense is getting better, and he is actually seeing the ball come off the bat pretty good.  They say the Arizona skies are one of the toughest to find the ball in because of all the sun, but so far so good for Soriano.

Are you all getting jacked for the new season to start?  I am, and have booked a trip to Chicago to watch the Cardinals series in Auguest.  I can’t wait to be sitting out in the Bleachers with my friends, drinking some beer, and watching my Cubbies beat some Cardinal ass!  If you haven’t yet, get your Cubs Tickets at Stubhub and join us!

Yesterday we reported that the Cubs and Carlos Zambrano were close on a one year deal that would have avoided a salary arbitration hearing but now it appears they are both ready to battle before a arbitration judge in Phoenix.

****UPDATE****  Jim Hendry and Carlos Zambrano have agreed on a 12.4 million contract for this upcoming year!  Now lets lock up Big Z 5 years at 90 million Hendry!

Jim Hendry has told star pitcher Carlos Zambrano that a deal will get done before his arbitration hearing that is supposed to happen tommorrow.

“I spoke to Jim earlier today and he told me, ‘Don’t worry about anything,’” Zambrano said. “We will get some agreement. I don’t think we’ll go to the trial tomorrow.”

The trial is actually a hearing in front of an independent arbitrator. Zambrano, who made $6.5 million in ‘06, is seeking $15.5 million. The Cubs countered with an offer of $11.025 million.

The Cubs will likely reach an agreement on a one-year deal now and avoid the hearing, and could come to terms on a multiyear deal before Opening Day. Zambrano said he hasn’t been losing any sleep over the negotiations.

It is great to see a superstar player like Alfonso Soriano report to spring training early to workout with his new team.  Soriano worked in the ourfield and did some hitting yesterday with Felix Pie and Chris Walker.  We can only hope this work ethic carries over to the players on the team and everyone is on the same page this year.  Hard work = big rewards!

Get your Cubs Tickets Here, it’s going to be an exciting season for the Cubs so don’t miss out!!!
