Wow I am very suprised to see this happen, Andy MacPhail has resigned as Cubs president. It suprises me because I thought MacPhail and Hendry were side by side going to return the Cubs to the playoffs where they were in 1998. Or wait, that is what they thought, not me!Â
MacPhail, 53, joined the Cubs in 1994 as president and CEO, and during his 12 seasons, the team reached the playoffs twice and advanced to the National League Championship Series in 2003. He also guided the expansion and modernization of Wrigley Field. This year, the team had one of the highest payrolls at $95 million, but finished with the worst record in the National League at 66-96.
John McDonough will take over as President of the Chicago Cubs. And has one goal in mind.
“My goal is singular,” McDonough said in a news conference following the Cubs season finale, an 8-5 win over the Colorado Rockies. “The purpose of why I’ve been asked to do this job is for the Cubs to win the World Series — not win the Wild Card or win the division or win the pennant. It’s time to win. It’s time to win the World Series.”
We will learn Dusty Bakers fate tomorrow (Monday)Â and I don’t expect him to be manager of the Cubs Monday evening.
